Giant Food Secures Major National Sponsorship
Washington, D.C. (September 30, 2015) – Giant Food, LLC has secured the title sponsorship of one of the largest and most unique food and music festivals in the country, The National Capital Barbecue Battle.
Now known as the “Giant Barbecue Battle,” the event is scheduled to take place on June 25th and 26th along Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC. The 2016 event will feature a line-up of everything from delicious and tempting free food samples to cooking demonstrations by Celebrity Chefs, Interactive Exhibits, Family Entertainment, Cooking Contests and more.
As part of its sponsorship, Giant will be conducting a special in-store month long product marketing program leading up to the Giant Barbecue Battle event. The program is designed to be an effective marketing tool in its ability to create awareness and excitement for Giant and its vendors.
The promotion runs throughout the month of June in all 168 Giant Food locations throughout Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, and the District of Columbia and includes Promotional Ad Pieces, Shelf Talkers, Iron Man Signs, In-Store Network Radio and Retail Displays. Giant shoppers will receive a purchase incentive of a free Giant Barbecue Battle event admission when they purchase participating products during the June promotional period.
At the Giant Barbecue Battle event, product manufacturers will be given the opportunity to showcase their brands to tens of thousands of consumers in the Taste of Giant Sampling Pavilion and on the Giant Cooking Demonstration Stage. This interactive sampling area offers Giant and its vendors the opportunity to educate the public about the wide variety of products and services available at Giant. In addition, the event offers two days of non-stop live entertainment with 30 bands on three stages plus Celebrity Chefs, TV Cooking Personalities, Cookbook Authors and the Nation’s Top BBQ Cooking Competition.
This exciting event offers Washington area residents and East Coast visitors alike, a chance to experience the thrill of competition BBQ at its best. Cooks from across the country come to represent their state and to compete for over $40,000 in cash and prizes. Barbecue legends like Myron Mixon and Tuffy Stone from TV’s “BBQ Pit Masters Show,” compete side-by-side with top BBQ Chefs and mom-and-pop teams, for the coveted title of National Barbecue Champion. Teams cook off in a number of National Cooking Contests including “The National Pork BBQ Championship” sponsored by the National Pork Board and America’s Best Beef Contest, sponsored by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. Other categories have included the Perdue Sizzlin’ Chicken Contest, Australian Lamb Contest, Smithfield Rib Contest and America’s Best BBQ Sauce. In 2016, military chefs from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard will participate in a special cook-off to benefit the USO of Metropolitan Washington.
In addition to all the great food, the event features unique interactive exhibits providing hands-on and virtual fun for kids of all ages. Special attractions over the years have included the NBA Nation Tour featuring NBA star players, Man Vs. Food Tour (Food Network), Disney’s Ratatouille Tour, Destination America’s popular “BBQ Pitmasters,” National Pork Tour, Perdue Cooking with Kids, Johnsonville (World’s Largest) Big Taste Grill, Charbroil Grill Tour, History Channel Cross Country Cookout, Kraft Mac & Cheese Tour, Nascar Kids Racing Tour, Lego Experience, Xbox Live and many more.
The Giant Barbecue Battle also offers community groups the opportunity to conduct outreach and raise funds. Over the years, government agencies such as the USDA, HUD and several branches of the armed forces and National Guard, have taken advantage of the exposure available to them at the event. The event has also raised over 1.6 million dollars for area non-profit groups such as the USO, Boys & Girls Club, Capital Area Food Bank, Wounded Warrior Project, American Red Cross and others. In addition, tons of food has been donated to area food banks and pantries.
